What have we been up to?

Work highlight examples

Regulatory

Acting in the core critical incident management team of a company to manage a critical global security incident, which included navigating information requests from regulators and conducting privacy impact assessments under the Australian Privacy Act, GDPR and overseas Data Protection Acts.

Tech efficiencies

Developing an automated process with a client to generate franchising agreements and other documents required under the Franchising Code of Conduct more efficiently. This process not only improves efficiency but also ensures compliance with the code’s requirements. The client can also access signed documents and maintain a complete record of individual franchisees' details.

Employment

Advising a senior partner on their exit from a long-term partnership in a professional services firm. It included navigating post-employment restraints, client and staff relationships and confidentiality.

Consumer

Advising an Australian automotive brand on its response to the ACCC in relation to concerns about the Motor Vehicle Information Scheme (MVIS).

Contracts

Negotiating an agreement for a food contract manufacturer for the licensing and supply of prebiotic and probiotic additives for plant products in the APAC region.

Disputes

Successfully settling a protracted five-party Supreme Court proceeding arising from a property development joint venture dispute.

IT

Advising a large aged-care provider on a master services agreement and related contract documents relating to a large IT transformation project. The project itself will run for nearly two years, and now the contract documents are in place, we will help our client navigate the issues and risks during this period.

M&A

Advising the Australian subsidiary of a multinational memorialisation and industrial technologies company in relation to the acquisition of a long-established Melbourne-based memorialisation company.

Pro bono

Acting for several not-for-profits in the community services sector and helping them secure Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) endorsement. From updating constituent documents to navigating complex DGR categories, we’ve enjoyed ensuring these organisations can offer tax deductions to donors and sustain their vital work in the community.

Out and about

Kaye Ho and Raph Goldenberg took to the stage at the NORA (National Online Retailers Association) Marketing Leaders Lunch to show how marketing and legal can work together to create bold, compliant campaigns that hit the mark. For their top tips on collaborating with legal teams for marketing success, check out the full summary on our website here.

Katherine Thomas and Kaye Ho joined a panel for the Law Institute of Victoria’s LegalTech in Practice series. They shared insights from CIE Legal’s document management system rollout—what went well and key takeaways for future change management projects. If you missed out, LIV members can watch it via the LIV website.

We hosted our third Women’s Networking Lunch with Nicole Wilson chairing and Kate Sherburn, Chief Legal Beagle of Who Gives a Crap headlining with a keynote that combined insights, energy and authenticity. We got the low-down on what went on behind the scenes at WGAC while the rest of us were hunting down toilet paper through COVID and we learned more about WGAC’s innovative for-profit, for-purpose business model.
Katherine Thomas and Carmen Parker, our Operations and Marketing Coordinator, headed up to Brisbane to catch some sun and attend the ALPMA Summit + ALTACON. They listened, learned and took away valuable insights on the legal industry and legal tech but most importantly, caught up with friends and made new connections.
